discussions, many ideas and trying different things a breakthrough was
achieved on 17 March 2011 at around 8pm local time. In February we had
a new broadband line installed at the base. A cable of almost 3km runs
from the nearest exchange through some sugar cane fields to the base.
Through this line we are able to get 512kbps internet. The brilliant
part of the deal is that it is uncapped unlimited internet, meaning
that the cost of the service is fixed. During testing I found that the
other GENESIS sites could receive sound and audio, but we received
nothing. I contacted the ISP about the issue and they began working on
it, though it took some days. On 17 March we were scheduled to join
other YWAM bases in a global worship session. As the time for the
connection approached and passed we were still unable to connect. They
while I checking internet routing, I discovered that ISP had changed
our route. We tried to connect, but couldn't get through at all.
Called the ISP again and explained was happening. A bit later while
trying to trouble shoot with one of the GENESIS guys in Switzerland,
suddenly the connection went through and we were seeing and hearing
the Lausanne base! We struggled a bit, because the machine kept
freezing. However later we were able to connect with the Lausanne base
without any problems.
I plan on working on a program to maximise the use of GENESIS for the
base here in Uganda. GENESIS gives the oppertunity for YWAM in Jinja
to receive here from international speakers, without the need for the
speaker to actual travel here and also for those from here to speak to
a wider audience. GENESIS also gives the oppertunity for multiple
bases to join together in events. I have a vision that Africa will be
a continent of LIGHT.

ReplyDeletecongratulations! Happy to hear that Jinja is finally connected to the rest of the world!! We should have a connection some time. I am trying to establish GENESIS in Hainichen, Germany and there is already some connection between the two bases through people.
