Some time has passed since my visit to Kenya, but I thought it good to still write something about it. I set off from the YWAM base on 18 December, catching a taxi along the highway. Asked the driver if he going up to the Kenya border, he said yes. Well it turned out to be 3 taxis later before I reached the border town of Busia, but only had to pay 1 fare, as the conductors kept passing their portion of the fare onto each other. Crossed into Kenya after changing money (SAers do not pay for Kenya visa). Once in Kenya, it was another taxi ride to the city of Kisumu. Kisumu is the Kenyan port on Lake Victoria. It was still early afternoon when I reached the station and so had some hours waiting for the train to depart in the evening. Although I had reports on the internet of the train always being late, we left Kisumu right on time. Around 11am the next morning the train arrived in Nairobi. I spent browsing through shops in city centre and then back to the station for 7pm train to Mombasa. There were many more people on the Mombasa train. (On the Kisumu train I was the only 1st class passenger and their was a Kenyan family and a guy from Japan in 2nd class.) The Mombasa train had 28 carriages according to one of the railway staff. The Mombasa train also around 11am next in Mombasa. Then it was find my accommodation, which was a bit of an adventure as the placed had just moved and no one knew where it was, but I thankful found it. It turned out many people had the same idea to spend Christmas in Mombasa. (A great many also seemed to working in Uganda.) Most of the time in Mombasa was enjoying the beach and exploring the city. The people I was staying with where a mixture of globe trotters and people volunteering around East Africa. We organised a Secret Santa and had a fun filled Christmas, even though we barely knew each other. On the Monday evening after Christmas I boarded a bus heading back to Uganda and after some 20 hours reached Jinja, without too much hassle.
